San Diego, CA: Lucha Libre Taco Shop

Filed under: California,Food,Places To Visit — Laura Moncur @ 11:01 am

One taco joint is pretty much the same as any other. There are so many that it’s impossible to eat at them all. If you are in the San Diego area, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t have at least one meal at Lucha Libre Taco Shop.

The highlight of the shop is the prestige of the Table of Champions.

Unlike the rest of the tables at the place, this one is beautiful. It is roped off with velvet ropes. You are served your tacos and burritos on REAL plates with REAL silverware. Your glasses are filled with the wine you ordered. While the rest of us normal schelps watch you eat in style, you are treated like a champion.

Here is a feature on KUSI News – San Diego:

Opening Day in Yellowstone National Park

Bison Snow YellowstoneMike and I are planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park soon, so we were interested to see if we were going to be buried in six feet of snow again this year. Fortunately, the lovely Roland K. Smith visited Yellowstone on opening day this year and gave us a bunch of photos to see how our trip might be.

For some strange reason we didn’t get to Yellowstone Park once last year. We decided we were definitely going to change that this year and further determined that, if possible and the weather permitted, we would go to Yellowstone on the first day that vehicular traffic was allowed into the Park.

Last year, Mike and I went to Yellowstone on opening day and we got a FAR different welcome.

The snow was piled higher than our ears. I don’t think we’ll run into that again this year. Thanks, Roland, for scoping it out for us!

Rudy and Cassie Go To Disneyland

Filed under: Amusement Parks,California,Places To Visit — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

Rudy and Cassie Go To Disneyland by Casey McKinnon from FlickrI love these photos from Rudy and Cassie on their trip to Disneyland. I always wanted to have a picture of myself trying to pull out the sword in the stone, but no one would take one of me. Next time I go, I’ll have to finally get a snapshot of me.

You can see all the photos here:

I love this tweet from Rudy:

It seems like whenever I tell the Internet I’m going to Disneyland, the whole world wants to experience it with me. We all turn into children again when we talk about Disneyland.

iPhone Apps for Travelers

Filed under: Travel — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

Lonely Planet PhrasebooksThe excellent Aliza Sherman wrote a great article about iPhone applications that are helpful when you’re traveling.

Here is her list with iTunes links to the applications. Click through to AK Tech Girl for more information.

  • Maps – Free application included with iPhone – Use the locate button to find where you are. Type in what you are looking for and it will give you directions.

  • Call a Taxi – $1.99 – Instantly find a taxi whenever you need it, wherever you are.

  • Currency Converter (by Phlogistic Apps) – $1.99 – Provides up-to-date foreign exchange information for over 150 different currencies and products.

  • iCall Free VoIP (by iCall, Inc.) – Free – iCall allows you to make and receive phone calls over WiFi – even when you don’t have a cell signal. Calls don’t count towards your cell calling plan.

  • Find My Phone (by CLO Software) – $0.99 – If you lose your phone, those who find it can easily get in touch with you right from the app’s main screen. If your phone is stolen, your phone can email (or call) you when the application is launched.

  • Lonely Planet Phrasebooks (by Lonely Planet Publications Pty Ltd) – $9.99 each – Want to never be at a loss for words, no matter where you are in the world? With your iPhone, and a little help from Lonely Planet, you’ll have the local lingo cracked.

  • Travelto (by Molinker, Inc.) – $0.99 each – Offline guidebooks for travelers by travelers in your pocket, anytime, anywhere.

  • HearPlanet Free (by HearPlanet) – Free – Use HearPlanet to learn about places you go, as well as what’s around you every day. It’s a great way to learn about your surroundings and you’ll be amazed at what you find.

I had never hear of Call a Taxi, iCall or Find My Phone, so I immediately downloaded all three on Aliza’s recommendations. I can’t wait to play with them!
