Epic Old Trailer in St. George

Filed under: Teardrops & Tiny Trailers — Laura Moncur @ 10:09 am

So many times I highlight gorgeous and glamorous campers that have been restored to a beautiful shine, but the other day, I saw a trailer that was just as impressive in its epic oldness.

One Trailer to Rule Them All

Filed under: Teardrops & Tiny Trailers — Laura Moncur @ 8:47 am

When we stayed at Dead Horse Ranch State Park last weekend, I saw this awesome teardrop trailer. The owners were leaving when I walked past, but they were willing to take a few minutes to quickly show it to me.

I asked what the writing on the bumper meant. It looked strangely familiar and I felt like I lost a few geek cred points when she said, “It reads, ‘One Trailer to Rule Them All.'” Also, their license plate read, “Gamgee.” That’s the last name of Sam Gamgee, played by Sean Astin, one of the hobbits who took the ring to Rivendell.

The hatch opens up a galley in the back, like most teardrop trailers.

The bottom sides open up and reveal the cooler and the rest of the galley. Brilliant design!

It was such a good looking teardrop, I really wished I had seen them BEFORE they were trying to leave so we could have talked more.

I’m so grateful that she gave me a quick tour before they had to head out! Safe Travels, my precious!

The Duct Tape Palace at Night

Filed under: Camping,Places To Visit,Teardrops & Tiny Trailers,Utah — Laura Moncur @ 9:24 am

I came across this in my old photos the other day. Our first tent trailer, the Palamino, was so trashed that the canvass was literally held together with duct tape. We didn’t actually call it the Duct Tape Palace until AFTER we gave it away to charity.

Seeing this old photo of it, though, made me miss it a bit.

This photo was taken on our maiden voyage of that camper at Wasatch State Park, before any duct tape was employed to keep the windows closed. It was a very good introductory camper that taught us that we really did like camping in a tent trailer. It made the cost of the Jayco that we have now seem worth it. I don’t miss the Duct Tape Palace, but I’m sure glad we had it for as long as we did. Totally worth the $300 we paid for it!

Popup Camper Modifications

I liked these videos showing the modifications these folks made to their tent trailer. This is the first video with the easy modifications.

These mods from the same people are a little more intense, but the bike rack is a stroke of genius!

I have made so many little modifications to our camper, but I’ve never thought of putting all of them on video. Great ideas here!

Trailorboat Sighting

I’ve talked about the brilliant design of the Trailorboat before here:

In August of 2013, I was actually able to see one in person in West Valley, Utah. It was part of a beautiful rig.

I went to the Salt Lake Farmer’s Market in July 2012 and saw this AWESOME camper turned food truck. It’s called Ramblin’ Rose Cafe.

A Wish to Carry My Home on My Back

I took this photo on one of my walks with my dog.

A Wish to Carry My Home on My Back from Starling Travel

This snail represents everything I love about camping with our little tent trailer. I love that I can carry my house on my back. My bed smells like me. I can cook myself some yummy food for dinner. It all feels so familiar because we have slept so many times in that tiny trailer. There is something so comforting about carrying my home on my back. That’s why I love traveling with a camper.

The A-Liner Lil Demon Teardrop Trailer

Filed under: Teardrops & Tiny Trailers — Laura Moncur @ 9:46 am

Last August, we were camping at the foot of the Colossus Roller Coaster at the Lagoon campground and we were near this awesome teardrop camper. The owners were very obliging and let me take a bunch of pictures of it.

The camper is called the Lil Demon and it was made by A-Liner back in 2006.

Like a Wild Goose Variation, the top opens up and allows for a lot of head space in the sleeping chamber.

She talked about how her father had built a teardrop when she was a child and she had always wanted one, so when her husband and she came across this cute little camper, they snapped it up.

The galley was really interesting. It not only had a canvas cover to put over it when not in use, it was removable. They showed me how the latches on each side slid out and he lifted out the galley. It fulfilled all my chuck box dreams!

Her brother was also camping with them in a teardrop camper he had made from scratch, but he was too shy to let me take pictures for Starling Travel. Suffice it to say, it was awesome, too!

I had no idea that A-Liner had dabbled in making teardrop campers and I wish they had continued. They had some really good ideas and the Lil Demon was a fantastic example of ingenuity!
