Next Time Try The Train And Relax

Filed under: Travel — Laura Moncur @ 2:56 pm

I love this photo from 1937 of two men walking on a road.

Next Time Take The Train

The bill board reads:

Next time try the train

Southern Pacific

It’s such a strange dichotomy to see the walkers with their suitcases in contrast to the cartoon man reclining on the billboard. I wonder if those two men would have taken the train if they had a choice…

  1. These two men where migrant bums. This photograph was taken March 1937, by Dorothea Lange. These two men trudging on this dirt road, had no choice but to. They had no money, mainly because non of the migrants had money back then…

  2. No they don’t have a choice.. The title of the photograph is “Towards Los Angeles, California”. They are abandoning their baron land and walks towards a better life. The midwest of America was hit hard by drought and duststorms as a result of that. California wasn’t hit as hard, and many people fled to work at the farms that hadn’t been shut down by the banks.
