Mystery Vintage Trailer: What Is It?

Filed under: Motorhomes and Campers,Teardrops & Tiny Trailers — Laura Moncur @ 10:00 am

I found this mystery vintage trailer on KSL Classifieds and I love the design. Who was the manufacturer?

Mystery Vintage Trailer: What Is It?

Based on the shape of the aluminum over the wheels, it looks like it might by a Scotty.

The outside looks like a classic teardrop design, but it’s a full-sized trailer.

The aluminum exterior looks pretty good.

Unfortunately, it appears that the trailer has leaked and the interior is going to need a lot of work.

Damaged upholstery can be replaced, but those leaks need to be fixed before the whole trailer rots from the inside out.

Not all of the inside is bad, though.

The stove is a two-burner, but I don’t think I’d trust it not to kill me.

I believe this is an ice box.

This trailer is only $950, so it is INCREDIBLY tempting to take it under my wing and make it whole and beautiful again. Everything would have to be torn out and built from scratch. As much as I love a good project, I think I’ll let this one go to another lover of vintage trailers. Maybe they’ll be able to identify it properly.

  1. This looks like a KIT (brand) trailer. They were made in California. It looks like their shorter model the KIT Ten. Kit’s had a wheel scoop somewhat similar to a Scotty. Based on interior, windows, etc. I’d say it’s about a 1947 or 48.
